Commentary
It has been described in this verse: Prosperous, rich and unruffled people do not regard any other save themselves. Those who have all luxurious things in the world, they look towards themselves only. They do not care concerning their future; even they do not have conception of the life after death. Nothing is visible to them save it that they should remain engaged in fulfilling their immediate desires.
It is commanded: Prosperous and rich people of that township got ready to oppose Our Prophet (peace be upon him) in which We sent him for rousing them from the sleep of carelessness and they said clearly: We do not acknowledge your superiority.
The aim is to console the last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) that if the Chieftains of Makkah do not believe in him then he should not be sad. The same behavior of the rich people remained always everywhere that they used to oppose their Prophet (peace be upon him) and say: We are more than the believers in wealth and children. We can never be tormented.
It is commanded: Making someone rich or poor depends on the Will of Allaah Almighty. Wealth and children cannot save any individual from the punishment. Only that person will escape from agony who will follow the Messenger of Allaah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). But most of the people do not know.
