Enjoyment is for a little

Chapter “LUQMAAN”- (LUQMAN) – 31

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.

 (I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

 

 وَمَن كَفَرَ فَلَا يَحْزُنكَ كُفْرُهُۥٓ إِلَيْنَا مَرْجِعُهُمْ فَنُنَبِّئُهُم بِمَا عَمِلُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ 23  نُمَتِّعُهُمْ قَلِيلًا ثُمَّ نَضْطَرُّهُمْ إِلَىٰ عَذَابٍ غَلِيظٍ 24  وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّنْ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ لَيَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُ 25a

23.  And whosoever disbelieveth, let not his disbelief afflict thee (O Muhammad). Unto Us is their return, and We shall tell them what they did. Lo! Allah is Aware of what is in the breasts (of men).   24.  We give them comfort for a little, and then We shall drive them to a heavy doom.   25a.  If thou shouldst ask them: Who created the heavens and the earth? They would answer: Allah.

23.  Wa  man  kafara  falaa  yahzunka  kufruh.  ‘IlayNaa  marji-‘uhum  faNunabbi-‘uhum  bimaa  ‘amiluu.  ‘InnAllaaha  ‘Aliimum-bizaatis-suduur.   24.  Numatti-‘uhum  qaliilan  summa  Naztarruhum  ‘ilaa  ‘azaabin  galiiz.   25a.  Wa  la-‘in  sa-‘altahum-man  khalaqas-samaawaati  wal-‘arza  laya-quulunnAllaah.

Commentary

 

Galiizin – (heavy, massive), it is an Adjective from the word gilzun, which means “harshness, severity”. Galiizun means “the thing, by looking or touching of which, one feels harsh trouble and pain”.

 

Every individual sees the Tokens of the Divine Power, but after looking them, it does not come in mind that any intelligent person will deny Allaah Almighty. Very wonderful Works of Nature have been spreading in the world for the people and they draw many different results useful for themselves by observing their circumstances. But most of them did not pay attention towards the actual conclusion which was required to be drawn from general facts. For rousing such people from the carelessness, they have been shaken in the previous verses.

 

After that, it is commanded: O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be up[on him): You have paid rights of causing to understand them, made them to hear the verses of Holy Qur’an, explained their meanings and described the way of acting upon them. Even then, if someone does not believe in Allaah Almighty, you should not be grieved. They all will return back to Us and the consequence of their deeds will come before them. We shall let them reap advantage from worldly things for a few days in the world, but at last they will have been suffering from heavy doom. The marvel is this that if they are asked “Who created the sky and the earth”, they will say immediately without thinking: Allaah. But if they are invited to believe in Him, then they desert.

Grasping the most trustworthy handhold

Chapter “LUQMAAN”- (LUQMAN) – 31

 وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ قَالُوا۟ بَلْ نَتَّبِعُ مَا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ ءَابَآءَنَآ أَوَلَوْ كَانَ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ عَذَابِ ٱلسَّعِيرِ 21  وَمَن يُسْلِمْ وَجْهَهُۥٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ فَقَدِ ٱسْتَمْسَكَ بِٱلْعُرْوَةِ ٱلْوُثْقَىٰ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلْأُمُورِ 22

21.  And if it be said unto them: Follow that which Allah hath revealed, they say: Nay, but we follow that wherein we found our fathers. What! Even though the Devil were inviting them unto the doom of Flame?   22.  Whosoever surrendereth his purpose to Allah while doing good, he verily hath grasped the firm hand-hold. And unto Allah belongeth the sequel of all things.

21.  Wa  ‘izaa  qiila  lahumut-tabi-‘uu  maaa  ‘anzalAllaahu  qaaluu  bal  nattabi-‘u  maa  wajadnaa  ‘alayhi  ‘aabaaa-‘anaa.  ‘Awa-  law  kaanash-Shaytaanu  yad-‘uuhum  ‘ilaa  ‘azaabis-Sa-‘iir.   22.  Wa  many-yuslim  wajha-huuu  ‘ilAllaahi  wa  huwa  Muhsinun  faqadis-tamsaka  bil-‘urwatil-wusqaa.  Wa  ‘ilAllaahi  ‘Aaqibatul-‘umuur.

Commentary

 

‘Is-tamsaka  bil-‘urwatil-wusqaa – (he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold), this entire sentence has passed in Chapter Two (Suratul-Baqarah).

 

It was commanded in the previous verses: Portents of the Power of Allaah Almighty have been spreading in the heavens and in the earth everywhere. The person, who will reflect into them, certainly he will come to know Allaah Almighty and His Great Epithets fully. It will not be possible for him to associate any other with Him. These people bow before others and adore them. These are entirely ignorant, and they have neither any such suitable reason, nor any written proof which they may produce.

 

It has been commanded in these verses: When it is said to them that they should follow the Commandments of Holy Qur’an, they slip away by saying: How can we give up the way of our forefathers? Say {O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)} to these ignorant people: Will you like to fall down in the Hell behind your forefathers if Satan has mislead them and they have been going towards the Fire of the Hell?

 

It is the straightness that the person who turned toward Allaah Almighty and obeyed His Commandments sincerely, he has grasped the strongest and most trustworthy handhold. He cannot go astray if he did not set this grasp free. At the end, Allaah Almighty will judge. Believers, who do good works, will win in the Hereafter.
