Advice of Luqman for his son

Chapter LUQMAAN”- (LUQMAN) – 31

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.

(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

12.  And verily We gave Luqman wisdom, saying: Give thanks unto Allah; and whosoever giveth thanks, he giveth thanks for (the good of) his soul. And whosoever refuseth – lo! Allah is Absolute, Owner of Praise.

13.  And (remember) when Luqman said unto his son, when he was exhorting him: O my dear son! Ascribe no partners unto Allah. Lo! to ascribe partners (unto Him) is a tremendous wrong.

12.  Wa  laqad  ‘aatayNaa  Luqmaanal-Hikmata  ‘anish-kur  Lillaah.  Wa  many-yash-kur  fa-‘innamaa  yash-kuru  linafsih.  Wa man-  kafara  fa-‘innAllaaha  Ganiyyun  Hamiid.

13.  Wa  ‘iz  qaala  Luqmaanu  libnihii  wa  huwa  ya-‘izuhuu  yaa-bunayya  laa  tushrik  Billaah.  ‘Innash-shirka  la-zulmun  ‘aziim.

Commentary

Luqman was a wise and learned person who used to search out the truth. His advices and sensible sayings were very famous. Most of the people opine that he was not a Prophet but very intelligent and prudent person. The pith of his advices has been saved in this Chapter of Holy Qur’an. In this story, it has been pointed out that the wise people have always supported and verified those matters after consideration, which are good and useful for the mankind.

It is commanded: We had bestowed wisdom to Luqman and said: Be grateful to Allaah Almighty because He has given you a good sense and other blessings. You should understand it that there is no benefit of Allaah Almighty in your thankfulness, but the mankind himself will reap its advantage, not only in this world but in the Hereafter too. Allaah Almighty does not care. His Nature is a Collection of the entire Excellences. Neither His Excellences increase if any person gives thanks to Him and nor there is any loss of Him if someone is not grateful to Him. It is good for the person himself who gives thanks because his prosperity increases by it. At the time of advising, Luqman said to his son: O my son, do not associate anything with Allaah. There is no greater sin than ascribing plurality to Allaah Almighty. It is the extreme limit of violence if the rights are not paid properly to the Real Rightful.

Commentary

It is commanded: It also did Allaah Almighty that He has cast into the earth firmly set heavy mountains, because in the creation of the earth; there is soft clay and sand too. As sand and soil are soft, and due to being surrounded with water, there was risk of its melting, lest it should quake or shift with you in the water suddenly. The mountains have been created for removing this fear, because neither these are soft and nor melt in water. Accordingly, due to collection of hard things in the clay, the earth became firm.

After that, Allaah Almighty dispersed various kinds of creatures and beasts everywhere on the earth and arranged for their provision. For this purpose, He caused to rain from clouds, by means of which; all kinds of vegetation, grass, greenness and vegetables, fruits and grains were produced in the earth. All such things provide freshness to eyes and the provision helps to keep up the life.

While entire such things have been created by the Power of Allaah Almighty, then why do you bow before others instead of Him? Can you show any such thing which has been created by someone else? Notwithstanding in the presence of so much clear proofs, these injustice people ascribe partners with Allaah Almighty, whereas it is the demand of sense that we should believe in Allaah Almighty wholeheartedly.
