Commentary

In previous verses we recited: Some are such people who waste their time in useless matters, remain busy in unavailing stories, fables and gossips. Neither they have any regard for Holy Qur’an, nor hear its verses carefully and nor act upon the Commandments mentioned in it. When it is recited before them, they either turn up their noses and knit the eyebrows or turn away from the assembly. Say to such people: It is tidings for you whether you consider it good or bad that a painful doom is ready for you.

It is commanded in this verse: However the people, who will believe in Holy Qur’an and the commandments mentioned in it, and will do those good works which have been instructed in it to do, they will abide comfortably in the Gardens of Pleasure, not temporarily but for ever. Listen! This is Promise of Allaah Almighty which is entirely true, and no one can hinder in its fulfillment. It shall be fulfilled certainly.

After that, it is commanded: This Qur’an says: Believe in Allaah Almighty. So knowing to Him is not so much difficult. He is such Exalted in Might that none has any power before Him. Along with it, His every Commandment is well imagined and established on strong foundation. His every work is full of wisdom. Behold! You see heavens piled one upon another without pillars. Think for awhile, Who created them. Then you should believe that He is Allaah Almighty Who created them.

Lessons from Holy Qur'an

A humiliating punishment (2)

Quran Chapter 31: 6 & 7 (Pt-21, Stg-5) (L-2540) درس قرآن

A humiliating punishment (2)

Chapter LUQMAAN”- (LUQMAN) – 31

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.

(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

And they said to Qureysh: Instead of hearing the stories of Qur’an, destruction of the folks of Aad and Thamud by which you can acquire nothing save grief and sorrow, you should hear the tales of Persian braves, kings and athletes and their love stories, so that ebb and flow of feelings, demonstrations of excitement and real hobbies of life come before you because those are very interesting and you will enjoy.

In these verses, after describing about their matters of ill-manners, it has been caused to understand that nothing is kept in useless gossips and nonsense talks, that you feel some happiness and enraptured for awhile after hearing good news of others, or shed tears due to being impressive from their circumstances of grief, but you got nothing. The real thing is correction of own life. You attain nothing by wasting your time and spending strength in useless matters and temporary excitement.

It is commanded: You see that some people prevent others from useful matters, purchase books of romance and useless tales for entrapping them in needless works. Their only aim is to teach “how to waste the precious time in un-employed works” by making the people to hear such stories. In this manner, they stop others from following the Commandments of Allaah Almighty, mock the way towards which He desires to guide them and they say: It has closed the doors of entire matters of mankind’s exhilaration and amusement. Is it any life in the life that you should recite and hear Qur’an every time, establish prayer, provide financial help to the needy and worship Allaah Almighty?

It is commanded: Say to them! Consequence of such life is nothing save doom; towards which you have been inviting. And that doom is “humiliating and shameful punishment”. At that time, the mankind will feel! Ah, I was able to achieve higher grade, but alas! I did nothing so now I am nothing.

Such mankind does not have any interest in the verses of Holy Qur’an. When the verses are recited to him, he turns away arrogantly and shows that he had not heard them. Say to him: A painful punishment has been waiting for you. It is tidings for you as a warning.

Brothers and sisters! Behold! Novels, stories, dramas, odes, dancing, singing, so-called fine arts, things of exhilaration and amusement etc. all such things come in the category of mere pastime of discourse, that is to say, needless matters. And these are bad signs. Our Lord! Have pity on our condition if we do not have interest in reciting Holy Qur’an, worship of Allaah Almighty and doing good works.
