‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.

(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

48.  Allah is He Who sendeth the winds so that they raise clouds, and spreadeth them along the sky as pleaseth Him, and causeth them to break and thou seest the rain down-pouring from within them. Then when He maketh it to fall on whom He will of His bondmen, lo! they rejoice.

49.  Though before that, even before it was sent down upon them, they were in despair.

48.  ‘Allaahul-lazii  Yursilur-riyaaha  fatusiiru  sahaaban  fayabsutuhuu  fis-samaaa-‘i  kayfa  yashaaa-‘u  wa  yaj-‘aluhuu  kisafan  fataral-wadqa  yakhruju  min  khilaalih.  Fa-‘izaaa  ‘asaaba  bihii  many-yashaaa-‘u  min  ‘ibaadiHiii  ‘izaa  hum  yastabshiruun.

49.  Wa  ‘in  kaanuu  min-  qabli  ‘any-yunazzala  ‘alayhim-min  wablihii  la-  mublisiin.

Commentary

‘In – (certainly, though, although), this word is an abbreviation of ‘inna.

Mublisiina – (in despair, to be disappointed, hopeless), it is the Subject from the word ‘ablaas, which means “to disappoint and to despair”.

Relief after affliction and comfort after ailment are manners of the world, which have been established by Allaah Almighty. If you wish to understand it, you should meditate on descending of the rain of mercy after the severity of heat and dryness. The people had been confusing due to severity of the heat and the earth had been scorching. Mean while Allaah Almighty sent seasonal winds along with clouds. Then clouds were fixed upon one another, and it began to rain from them. Some time earlier the weather was very hot, people were confounded and they had become hopeless. As soon as it began to rain, their faces began to be in bloom and they began to enjoy. While you have seen this occasion by your own eyes then why do you not understand that the calamity is only for a few days? Good days will come soon, signs of which have begun. After some days, Islam will overcome and the enemies will be defeated.

Commentary

It is being described clearly in these verses that a way of life has been prescribed for the mankind in the world, which is according to his nature. Peculiarity of that path is to know the difference between good works and wicked deeds. This Religion has been prescribed by Allaah Almighty and because He is Who made the nature of human beings and established their temper, so He knows that which way of life will be suitable for them who are of such nature and temper. When the people give up such way of life, then they are entangled in great afflictions.

Remember it that falling back from the Natural Religion is cause of inviting misfortunes, which will fall suddenly even in this world too; so that the people should startle and abstain from doing wrong. The Believers should not be confused from any accidental disaster.

It is commanded: We send winds after severity of the heat, which is a Sign that the rain of mercy will come down now, harshness of heat will get away. Moreover, by these favorable winds, boats and ships sail in rivers and seas by the Command of Allaah Almighty, the people transfer their livelihood from one place to any other by them, reap advantage by the Grace of Allaah Almighty and are grateful to Him.

The messengers (peace be upon them) also are like those delightful winds. They are Tokens of the Mercy of Allaah Almighty. O Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him): Prophets (peace be upon them) came to their own people separately before you who showed them clear Proofs. Then disobedient people were punished and finally the Believers overcame. The support of the Believers is incumbent upon Us.

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

43.  So set thy purpose resolutely for the Right Religion, before the Inevitable Day cometh from Allah. On that Day mankind will be sundered.

44.  Whoso disbelieveth must (then) bear the consequences of his disbelief, while those who do right make provision for themselves-

45.  That He may reward out of His Bounty those who believe and do good works. Lo! He loveth not the disbelievers (in His Guidance).

Commentary

Yas-sadda-‘uuna – (they will be sundered, divided), this word is from ‘assaddu-‘un, origin of which is sada’. Sada’ means “to cut from the centre, to separate”.

It is commanded: O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him): You should direct your face towards the established and correct Religion and say to the people: Surely the Day of Resurrection is near to come. Allaah Almighty has fixed its term which cannot be repelled and no hindrance shall take place in its arrival. You should adopt the correct Religion before its coming, otherwise when the term will be over; then you will not be able to do something. On that Day, righteous people and evil doers will be separated from one another. Disbelievers and corruptors will be punished properly. Believers, who are doing good works, have been making arrangement of their betterment certainly. Allaah Almighty will bestow very good retribution of their belief and good works by His Bounty. The mankind should understand it carefully that Allaah Almighty does not like them who do not believe in Him.
