Commentary

The people of Makkah committed really a great mistake that in the beginning, they rejected Islam intentionally. They remained involved in the same mania; in which their forefathers were. Greed of the world, temptation of wealth and property had made them blind. The same misfortune has kept the mankind subdued with effect from the beginning of the world. And nowadays, it has become an open object of the people that they declare openly: We need money at every cost whether we lose our life. (Let life go if wealth remains).

The people of Makkah were caused to understand by every means that: Behold! Allaah Almighty has everything. They denied the Truth and said: We have been receiving everything by adoring the idols, whereas it was entirely a lie, false imputation and killing the justice.

It has been commanded in this verse: The greatest tyrant is that person who does not accept the truth, but violates it. Such kinds of people are unable to understand that abode of those, who disbelieve in Allaah Almighty, is surely Hell. We say openly that those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our ways. Allaah Almighty is with them who do good works honestly and sincerely, and He is their Supporting Friend and Helper.

Commentary

In this verse, one such matter has been reminded to the Idolaters of Makkah, by which their stubbornness comes before eyes clearly and it becomes sure that they had gripped up their loins to do injustice, and truly they deserved punishment, which Allaah Almighty gave them by means of the Muslims. The people of Makkah were safe from plundering and ravaging by the fortune of “The Square Building” (Ka’bah). In the remaining entire Arab, life of none was safe. They had no work to do accept raiding upon one another, general massacre and plundering. However, all of them used to revere the Dignity of The Square Building. The Township of Makkah was situated around this Building and the people of this Township were considered as they were guardians of The Square Building. Therefore they also were respectable for all. There was a circle around Makkah. The person, who used to reside in this circle or who used to fly here for shelter, was protected from any stroke of his enemy.

It is commanded: We are, Who arranged to build this Place of safety and peace, which is called “a Sanctuary”. The people of everywhere and its adjacent are being slaughtered and plundered. But no one comes to this side. Do you know, Who inspired the greatness of this Place in their hearts?

Allaah Almighty commands: it is Our Work and We have obstructed the people from plundering here. Then, is it not injustice that you entirely forgot Our Favor, which is really a Truth and which was your moral obligation to acknowledge according to justice? And you began to adore self-fabricated false gods by stubbornness. What ungratefulness would be more than it? But it is evident disloyalty.
