Chapter Qasas”- (The Story) – 28

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahiminash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.

(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

79b.  Those who were desirous of the life of the world said: Ah, would that we had the like of what hath been given unto Korah! Lo! He is lord of rare good fortune.

80.  And those who had been given knowledge said: Woe unto you! The reward of Allah for him who believeth and doeth right is better, and only the steadfast will obtain it.

79b.  Qaalallaziina  yuriiduunal-Hayaatad-Dunyaa  yaalayta  lanaa  misla  maaa  ‘uutiya  Qaaruunu,  ‘innahuu  lazuu-  hazzin  ‘aziim.

80.  Wa  qaalallaziina  ‘uutul-‘ilma  waylakum  sawaabUllaahi  khayrul-liman  ‘aamana  wa  ‘amila  saalihaa.  Wa  laa  yulaqqaahaaa  ‘illas-Saabiruun.

Commentary

Yulaqqaa – (is granted, will obtain), origin of this word is talqiyatun which has been derived from laqyun. Laqyun means “to meet”. From the same origin, a word laqaa’ has come out which means “meeting”. Talqiyatun means “to bring together, to harmonize, to unite”. Laa  yulaqqaa means “is not united, is not given”. Laa  yulaqqaahaa means “they are not granted”, that is to say, it does not reach them.

After looking pomp and adornment of Korah, mouths of worldly-minded people were filled with water. They began to say: Would that we had wealth and goods like what were given to Qarun. He is very lucky and one of great fortunate. His all desires have been fulfilled. He revels and lives very comfortably.

By observing their condition, intelligent people who were aware of the reality, said: O unfortunate people! What are you saying this? What has kept in this temporary splendor? How much day will he live with them? It is nothing before those luxurious things which Allaah Almighty has kept ready for His obedient people. But those things will be granted to such people who remain patient and steadfast after looking rich and great people in the world. They are contented on that what Allaah Almighty has given to them and they comply with His Commandments. They do not desire the life as of the worldly-minded people.

79a.  Fakharaja  ‘alaa  qawmihii  ziinatih.

Commentary

Wise people of the nation caused to understand Qarun: We accept it that you have collected so much wealth and have become very rich. But it does not mean that you begin to exult. You should spend your wealth for helping the poor people. It is Kindness of Allaah Almighty that He has given you wealth. In exchange, you should do acts of kindness with other people. Being displeased; Korah said: Stop saying! Keep your advice to yourselves. This wealth is not of the father of any other. I have earned it by the knowledge I have. Alas! He forgot Allaah Almighty due to pride of his wealth.

It is commanded: He was ignorant who did not understand that Allaah Almighty has destroyed the rebellions before him, who were owners of throne and crown, and the wealth used to come to whom from all around. They had great Army. At last Allaah Almighty dethroned them within twinkling of an eye. Neither their emperor remained and nor wealth. The people who considered that the sin was nothing and who rejected the Prophets (peace be upon them), asking from them concerning their sins is useless. They are criminals clearly. Everything of the Omnipotent witnesses that they are wrongdoers. On the other side, the Angels (peace be upon them) have been recording in their Conduct Sheet; their entire such deeds which they have been committing against the Law of the Nature. Then what is the need of asking from the guilty? If they will be questioned, it will not be for proving that they are evildoers, but to abash and put them to shame.

Qarun did not listen to them who advised and then on a day he came out before his people in his pomp and adornment.
