Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

15.  Whoso is wont to think (through envy) that Allah will not give him (Muhammad) victory in the world and the Hereafter (and is enraged at the thought of his victory), let him stretch a rope up to the roof (of his dwelling), and let him hang himself. Then let him see whether his strategy dispelleth that whereat he rageth! 15.  Man  kaana  yazunnu  ‘al-lany-yansurahUllaahu  fid-dunyaa  wal- ‘Aakhirati  fal-yamdud  bi-sababin  ‘ilas-samaaa-‘i  summal-  yaqta’  fal-yanzur  hal  yuz-hibanna  kayduhuu  maa  yagiiz.

Commentary

Fal-yamdud – (Let him stretch), this is word of command for the third person, derived from “madd”, which means “to stretch”.

Sababa – (a rope), the aim from “to stretch a rope up to the sky” is “to hope for betterment and promotion”.

Kayda – (strategy, trick), this word has passed earlier, it aims nearly as the words “cheating, artifice, fraud etc.”

Maa  yagiizu – (anger, rage, passion).

If a mankind has some sense, a key to victory and success has been given to him in this verse. By this key, he can open the locks of difficulties easily. It was described in the beginning of this Section that some people worship Allaah Almighty upon a narrow Marge, so that if prosperity, wealth and property etc. befall them they are content therewith, but if a trial befalls them, then they become hopeless from Allaah Almighty and fall away utterly.

It is commanded to such people: O ignorant mankind! Try to understand it that you cannot gain your end if you become hopeless and are disappointed. It is like “Should that person cut the rope in rage; who fastens a durable rope to reach the roof, then he climbs in his first effort but does not reach the roof with the help of rope?” Cutting the rope is a wrong act. If the rope is not untied, then during his any further attempt, he will climb and reach the roof. If the rope is cut then he would not be able to try again and again, and his last support would be no more. Sometime, such foolish people come to suicide due to being failure. If they had patience and tried again and again, then they would have been succeeded at any time.

Disconnecting the relationship from Allaah Almighty after connecting; is ignorance. Such person can do nothing but weeping and lamenting.

Commentary

The people, who withdrew from Allaah Almighty; turned away from His Commandments; and began to adore the gods; fabricated by their own hands, they will neither get any sort of real comfort and ease in the world and nor on the Day of Resurrection. This decision concerning them has been caused to hear in the previous verses. Similarly, concerning another kind of people, it has been commanded also that they too will not reap any advantage save the loss of the both Worlds. These are the people who worship Allaah Almighty till they are provided the things agreeable to their mind. Such people stand upon a narrow Marge, and as soon as they are afflicted; they run away forthwith unto the other side, and turn away from the worship of Allaah Almighty.

It is commanded: Those people who believed in Allaah Almighty and did righteous works continuously, for them are Gardens for dwelling during the next life; underneath which the rivers will be flowing in every region. Allaah Almighty has arranged for them; by His grace and favor; all comfortable things. To punish the wrongdoers; and reward the righteous and the obedient is not difficult for Him. He has intended to do so. And there is no one who may prevent Him from doing that which He intends.

Commentary

The person who makes the religion obedient of own wishes, he can never arrange for his life after death i.e. the Hereafter. Eventually he is disgraced and distressed even in the world. As he has forgotten Allaah Almighty, so at the time of necessity he will call someone else for help. It is demand of his nature that he should seek support of any other in problems; make any person friend; patron and helper of himself, trust in him and discuss own difficult matters with him during adversity.

Human sense says that only he can be friend and patron during evil days who knows his case and has power to help him in all circumstances. No such person can be in the world save Allaah Almighty. While he has forsaken Allaah Almighty, then to whom will he call for help now?

It is commanded: To whom will he call except Allaah Almighty, he will be weak, impotent and feeble; who will neither be able to benefit and nor hurt. One should think that how much great apostasy is this; and how far this stupid act will throw him from the truth?

The people, who make idols and adore them or become slaves of own wishes, (which means that they should dwell as the disciples of Satan,) thinking about them that those can benefit; is imaginary only, but the harm is entirely real and true. To whom will you choose for friend or patron save Allaah Almighty, will be an evil patron and an evil friend.

Commentary

It is compulsory for the human being that he should dwell in the world in accordance with a particular determined way. Without it, if his getting long is not impossible; then certainly it is however difficult. Foundation of every Way is on Faiths, durability and maturity of which depends on the durability and maturity of that particular Way. Such way of life, in the depth of which, some Faiths have been working, is called “a Religion”.

Holy Qur’an says: For the entire human beings, there is only one Religion. But selfishness of the human beings have torn this Religion into pieces. The same selfishness and thought of personal benefits is such misfortune which makes the Religion mere play. By it, the actual Religion becomes at variance, and the mankind becomes as a rolling-stone. And whither he considers his advantage on ground, he turns away thither.

In this verse, evil of the same way has been described. A Muslim should never spoil his Faith due to a little worldly transitory benefit. Such kind of mankind has been reprehended strongly who is in Islam until he reaps worldly advantages in it. If he gets wealth and property, honor and respect due to having belief in Allaah Almighty, then he is satisfied, offers prayers timely and keeps a fast etc. regularly. But if he has to live in the state of misery, then he turns away immediately from the Religion. For such people in this world is ignominy, and on the Day of Resurrection Allaah Almighty will make them taste the Doom of Burning, which is the sheer loss.

10.  Zaalika  bimaa  qaddamat  yadaaka  wa  ‘annAllaaha  laysa  bi-zallaamil-lil-‘abiid.

(Section 1)

Commentary

Saaniya – (one who causes to move round), it is the Subject from the word san-yun, which means “to turn”.

‘Itfun – (sideways, a side), it aims “one side of the body in which the neck and a side etc. are included”. Saaniya  ‘itfun means “the person who turns one side of his body”. It is a sign of pride and haughtiness.

In these verses, it is being described about such person who does neither believe in the Epithets of Allaah Almighty, His Messengers (peace be upon them), the Scriptures He sent in the world, and nor obeys His Commandments, whereas he sees with his eyes clearly the tokens of His Divine Power.

It is commanded: The unbeliever turns away in pride after hearing the verses of Holy Qur’an and by turning his body to one side, he says to the people: I don’t understand that which these people say, “Believe in Allaah Almighty, obey His Commandments, stop from that which is forbidden, listen to verses of Holy Qur’an mentally! What has been kept in these sayings? Allaah Almighty commands: Say to that selfish who misapprehends: He will dwell in the world a disgraceful life and even on the Day of Resurrection; when he will come to life again after death, and will be standing before Allaah Almighty, then this decision will be caused to hear him that he should be thrown in the burning Fire of the Hell, so that he may find the result of his evil deeds. He should understand it carefully that he has been sowing thorns in favor of himself by shrinking from the Commands of Allaah Almighty. His wicked deeds will certainly bloom. Allaah Almighty does never oppress any of his slaves and nor He punishes any person without reason. That result will be of his own deeds which he will be punished or given reward. Evil begets evil, but good deeds are fruitful forever.

Chapter Hajj” – (The Pilgrimage) – 22

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

So much abundant tokens regarding perfect Omnipotence of Allaah Almighty exist in the universe that none can remain in any doubt concerning the existence of Allaah Almighty; by observing them. It is another matter that someone looks these portents but even then he remains involved in ignorance, and evades by saying that “It is routine of the world, so it is not fruitful to consider that it is an important affair”.

It has been commanded in these verses that if you set other tokens aside, but meditate in the creation and state of the mankind’s growth; and the changes which occur in the circumstances of the earth only, then you will find out that “Existence of Allaah Almighty is incumbent. Otherwise, there can be no reasonable cause of creating this wonderful Art, artistic work and circumstances of arrangements and systems. “Coming of anything into being spontaneously” is not understandable. Therefore, it will be necessary to believe that these entire wonders are by the Omnipotence and Intention of Allaah Almighty. Correct knowledge and sense of mankind; and Heavenly Scriptures guide us to reach the same result. The people who do not find it out as it is, their knowledge is inexpert and their thought is sick. They put the Heavenly Scriptures behind their back, whereas without the Light of the Scriptures, human sense cannot work properly, and it stumbles hither and thither.

In the above mentioned verse, this grievous incident has been described effectively. It is commanded: Even in the presence of so much open portents, some people do not believe in Allaah Almighty. They do not know the worth of His Messengers (peace be upon them) and consider that His Scriptures are nothing. Particularly, they do not give any importance to the last Messenger of Allaah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and His last Scripture i.e. Holy Qur’an, which is a Summary of the entire Heavenly Scriptures. Their knowledge is equal of ignorance. Their arguments are weightless. Their sense has been enclosed in deep darkness. Indeed, that person learnt nothing who studied during his entire age, practised to bring out results from sciences, honored the magnificent Book of Allaah Almighty, but by keeping himself away from it and closing his eyes; neither he believed in Allaah Almighty; nor knew the Messengers (peace be upon them) and nor learned to open his eyes in the Light of Allaah’s Book. He has fallen into blind imitation only.

Commentary

Muniir – (Light, clear, splendid, brilliant, shining, illuminating), it is the Subject from the word ‘inaaratun, which has been derived from “Nuur”. Nuur means “Light, splendor etc.”

By considering thoughtfully upon the stages of mankind’s creation and revival of the earth after being barren, it appears that indeed; Allaah Almighty exists. He quickens the dead and He is Able to do all things. It was discussed in the previous lesson.

It has been commanded in this verse that by meditating in the above mentioned matters, it will come in the knowledge also that certainly the Day of Resurrection will come and Allaah Almighty will reproduce the people who died, because neither the human being can fulfill his entire desires during the life of this world, and nor full retribution of good deeds can be given here to the righteous people, nor the wrongdoers and unbelievers can be punished here wholly and properly.

Generally, the capability of the things appear in the world, but perfect competency and full hidden abilities of the mankind do not become manifest during the limited life of this world. Therefore it is compulsory that for their full appearance, the mankind’s life should be continued even after death. Chain of its improvement should be maintained and opportunity to its strength and abilities for prospering should be provided to reach the last stage. For this purpose, coming back to life again and occurrence of the Resurrection are certainly necessary.

Commentary

Haamidatan – (droughty, barren), it is the Subject from the word ham-dun, which means “to occur drought, to wither”.

Rabat – (it swells, increases, heaves).

Bahiijin – (brilliant, splendid), it is an adjective from the word bah-jatun, which means “delightful, blooming”.

‘Al-Haqqu – (the Truth, the Reality), this word is also an adjective from Haqq. Haqq means “Right, True, God”.

The people who are in doubt concerning “the life after death”, in fact they did not understand the Divine Power of Allaah Almighty. Therefore, it is the way of removing this doubt that they should meditate in the portents of Allaah’s Divine Power in this world, so that they may know well Allaah Almighty during their worldly life. These portents exist even in the creation of mankind themselves. After describing about them, now the attention is being drawn toward the state of the earth, that a time comes when the earth is seen totally droughty, lifeless and barren. After that, water falls in the form of raining, then it becomes fresh, moist and swells being wet; and is mollified. Then various kinds of fruits, flowers and grains come out from it. These entire are wonders of the Divine Power of Allaah Almighty, which show that He really exists Who quickens the dead. And His Divine Power has been surrounding everything. He does what He desires.

And among you there is he who dieth (young), and among you there is he who is brought back to the most abject time of life, so that, after knowledge, he knoweth naught. 5b.  Wa  Nuqirru  fil-‘arhaami  maa  Nashaaa-‘u  ‘ilaaa  ‘ajalim-mu-samman  summa  Nukhrijukum  tiflan  summa  li-tabluguuu  ‘ashuddakum.  Wa  minkum-many-  yutawaffaa  wa  minkum  many-  yuraddu  ‘ilaaa  ‘arzalil-‘umuri  li-kaylaa  ya’-lama  mim-  ba’di  ‘ilmin-  shay-‘aa.

Commentary

Nuqirru – (We cause to remain), origin of this word is ‘iqraar, which has come out from qa-ra-ra. Qaraar means “fixedness”. ‘Iqraar means “to fix on”.

‘Ashudda – (full strength), this word has passed in Suratul- ‘An-‘aam and Surah Banii  ‘Israaa-‘iil.

It is commanded: When a little lump of flesh is formed, then to whom We will; We cause to remain it in the womb of the mother. And for whom We don’t will, is aborted. A fixed time has been appointed for this purpose; which is at least six months and maximum two years. Some scholars say that maximum period is four years. Drop of seed (nutfah) is brought up gradually in the womb of the mother and necessary food is provided to it regularly, thus far that it becomes a living infant. Then it is brought out from the womb of the mother in its perfect form. After delivery it is given growth step by step to such extent that its all internal and external strength reaches perfection. Some infants die during childhood, some when they are young and some live; up to reaching the old age. As much their age increases, so much their internal and external strength decreases, and then they reach at the lowest degree of the age. At that stage, their sense and memory becomes very weak, and they forget all that whichever they had learned.

5a.  O mankind! if ye are in doubt concerning the Resurrection, then lo! We have created you from dust, then from a drop of seed, then from a clot, then from a little lump of flesh shapely and shapeless, that We may make (it) clear for you. 5a.  Yaaa-‘ayyuhan-naasu  ‘in  kuntum  fii  raybim-minal- Ba’-si  fa-‘inNaa  khalaqNaakum-min-  turaabin  summa  min-nutfatin  summa  min-‘alaqatin  summa  mim-muzgatim-mukhallaqa-tinw-wa  gayri  mu-khallaqatilli-Nubayyina  lakum.

Commentary

Ba’-si – (the Resurrection, a rising again, revival from the grave, the future state), the meanings of this word should impress on the mind thoroughly. Without having belief in it; a mankind cannot become a mankind.

Mukhallaqa-tin – (shapely a little lump of flesh), gayri  mu-khallaqatin – (shapeless a little lump of flesh), these both words are “the passive participle” from the word “takhliiq”, which has been derived from khalaqa. Khalaqa means “to create, to give shape, to form”.

The people, who deny the commandments of Allaah Almighty, have been involved in various misunderstandings. They do not have knowledge but consider that they know everything and understand the matters of own benefits very well. But in fact they understand nothing. The person who did not understand even Allaah Almighty and His Commandments, verily he did not understand the life and its aim. And without understanding these both things, knowing other things is useless and waste of time. The people of this nature are disciples of Satan who will cast them in the Hell along with himself.

It has been caused to know the people in this verse that as far as the human being will not believe in the life after death, he will not be able to become a real mankind. He should understand it that the birth of human being comes into being from the dust. From the collection of its different ingredients, a drop of seed is produced which is changed in the form of congealed blood. Then this blood becomes a little lump of flesh, which; in the beginning; has no any particular form. After that; gradually it comes in a proper form.

Allaah Almighty commands: Purpose of describing this all is that the mankind should know the Divine Power’s extent of Allaah Almighty. Entire ingredients of mankind’s body are acquired from the dust. And then by changing the circumstances of its collection, skeleton of human being is made ready at last. And these changing are according to established orders.
