Loss of both the world and the Hereafter

Chapter Hajj” – (The Pilgrimage) – 22

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

11.  And among mankind is he who worshippeth Allah upon a narrow Marge so that if good befalleth him he is content therewith, but if a trial befalleth him, he falleth away utterly. He loseth both the world and the Hereafter. That is the sheer loss. 11.  Wa  minannaasi  many-ya’-budUllaaha  ‘alaa  barf.  Fa-‘in  ‘asaabahuu  khayru-nitma-‘anna  bih.  Wa  ‘in  ‘asaabat-hu  fitnatu-nin-qalaba  ‘alaa  wajhih.  Khasirad-dunyaa  wal-‘Aakhirah.  Zaalika  huwal-khusraanul-mubiin.

Commentary

It is compulsory for the human being that he should dwell in the world in accordance with a particular determined way. Without it, if his getting long is not impossible; then certainly it is however difficult. Foundation of every Way is on Faiths, durability and maturity of which depends on the durability and maturity of that particular Way. Such way of life, in the depth of which, some Faiths have been working, is called “a Religion”.

Holy Qur’an says: For the entire human beings, there is only one Religion. But selfishness of the human beings have torn this Religion into pieces. The same selfishness and thought of personal benefits is such misfortune which makes the Religion mere play. By it, the actual Religion becomes at variance, and the mankind becomes as a rolling-stone. And whither he considers his advantage on ground, he turns away thither.

In this verse, evil of the same way has been described. A Muslim should never spoil his Faith due to a little worldly transitory benefit. Such kind of mankind has been reprehended strongly who is in Islam until he reaps worldly advantages in it. If he gets wealth and property, honor and respect due to having belief in Allaah Almighty, then he is satisfied, offers prayers timely and keeps a fast etc. regularly. But if he has to live in the state of misery, then he turns away immediately from the Religion. For such people in this world is ignominy, and on the Day of Resurrection Allaah Almighty will make them taste the Doom of Burning, which is the sheer loss.

Commentary

Saaniya – (one who causes to move round), it is the Subject from the word san-yun, which means “to turn”.

‘Itfun – (sideways, a side), it aims “one side of the body in which the neck and a side etc. are included”. Saaniya  ‘itfun means “the person who turns one side of his body”. It is a sign of pride and haughtiness.

In these verses, it is being described about such person who does neither believe in the Epithets of Allaah Almighty, His Messengers (peace be upon them), the Scriptures He sent in the world, and nor obeys His Commandments, whereas he sees with his eyes clearly the tokens of His Divine Power.

It is commanded: The unbeliever turns away in pride after hearing the verses of Holy Qur’an and by turning his body to one side, he says to the people: I don’t understand that which these people say, “Believe in Allaah Almighty, obey His Commandments, stop from that which is forbidden, listen to verses of Holy Qur’an mentally! What has been kept in these sayings? Allaah Almighty commands: Say to that selfish who misapprehends: He will dwell in the world a disgraceful life and even on the Day of Resurrection; when he will come to life again after death, and will be standing before Allaah Almighty, then this decision will be caused to hear him that he should be thrown in the burning Fire of the Hell, so that he may find the result of his evil deeds. He should understand it carefully that he has been sowing thorns in favor of himself by shrinking from the Commands of Allaah Almighty. His wicked deeds will certainly bloom. Allaah Almighty does never oppress any of his slaves and nor He punishes any person without reason. That result will be of his own deeds which he will be punished or given reward. Evil begets evil, but good deeds are fruitful forever.
