31b.  and We have placed therein passageways that haply they may find their way.

32.  And We have made the sky a roof withheld (from them); and yet they turn away from its Portents.

33.  And He it is Who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. They float, each in an orbit.

31b.  wa  ja-‘alNaa  fiihaa  fijaajan-  subulal-la-‘allahum  yahtaduun.

32.  Wa  ja-‘alNas-samaaa-‘a  saqfam-  mahfuuzaa.  Wa  hum  ‘an  ‘Aayaatihaa  mu’-rizuun.

33.  Wa  Huwallazii  khalaqal-layla  wan-nahaara  wash-shamsa  wal-qamar.  Kullun  fii  falakiny-yasbahuun.

    Commentary

Fijaajun – (open, spacious), this word is plural of fajjun, which means “a pass in the mountains”.

Subulun – (passageways), it is plural of sabiil, which means “a path, road”.

Falakun – (a circle, a ring), in Arabic language; every round thing and circle is called falak. The sun, the moon, stars and planets revolve around their separate orbits.

Yasbahuuna – (they float), this word is from sabaha, which means “to float, to move on own way continuously”.

Allaah Almighty fixed the mountains in the earth like solid and high walls, so that it should remain firm at own place by their weight and firmness. Then among the mountains, He made wide passes and ways, so that for the people, it should be easy to meet with one another and carry their things from one place to the other. He spread the sky overhead like strong and firm roof without any support. There is no fear of its fracture or falling down.

There are uncountable Portents of Allaah’s Omnipotence and Wisdom into the heavens, but the people have turned away from their side, otherwise everything has been describing that it has been created by A Great, Powerful and Wise Creator. In addition, there is a clear proof of the Existence of Allaah Almighty in moving of the sun and the moon at their proper times, constant circle of the day and the night, movement of the planets in their orbits while those do not dash together with one another.

    Commentary

Ratqun – (of one piece, pierced into each other), it means “confined at one place”.

FafataqNaa-humaa – (then We parted them, We divided them into separate parts), it is past tense from the word fataqa, which means “to separate, to open”.

Rawaasiya – (solid things, heavy loads, firm hills)

The Way of creating the universe has been described in these verses, so that the mankind should meditate in it and estimate the Power of its Creator, and so that the door of his knowledge may be opened.

It is commanded: Say to the people who disbelieve in Allaah Almighty! The heavens and the earth; and all those things between them which you see separate from one another; were of one piece before their creation. Then He separated them by His Power from one another and spread them in a plain. Then He disjoined the living things from the water. And when He opened the pores of the sky, the water rained from them. When He opened the pores of the earth, the water was absorbed into it. After that, plants, vegetables, herbs and crops came out from the earth. Then animals were created. The land was soft, therefore He placed firm hills in it so that it may not tremble along with the things created upon it.

    Commentary

It is commanded: Chosen slaves of Allaah Almighty and His Angels (peace be upon them) have no inclination except it that they should remain engaged in His Remembrance and obey His Command. He knows their entire conditions, open or hidden; next or last. They do not recommend any person. However they continue finding that from whom Allaah Almighty is pleased, so in favor of him/her; they pray. They do not have authority to do or say something by themselves. They do or say only that for which they are commanded.

Then it is commanded: They are not out of Our Prescribed Law concerning reward and punishment. You give them so much great degree that (Let us flee to Allaah) they are managers and children of Allaah Almighty. But they are His slaves. Suppose, if some of them say that: Worship me also beside or along with Allaah Almighty! then they also will be thrown into the Fire of the Hell like wrongdoers. But they do never err as such. Satan erred like this so he was determined as the Hellish.

    Commentary

If the sense of the mankind is pure from external effects and internal defects, and it is used properly, then it will reach only one result, that is to say, The Creator of this world is only One Allaah Almighty. Neither He took help of any other in its creation, nor He asked anyone’s advice for preparing its map and nor was there any such individual able that he should be consulted. Its administration is also entirely in His Hand. He does not need any minister or counselor for this purpose. Only He is Who has established the administrative departments and He issues suitable Commandments concerning every department directly. For the help of the sense, He sent Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them) and said to them clearly: None is Worshipped except Me. Therefore you should worship Me only, pray from Me only, spread your hands before Me only and convey the same Message to the entire people.

But some people, neither use their sense and nor obey the Sayings of the Messengers (peace be upon them). They ascribe others as partners of Allaah Almighty in the creation of the world and its arrangements. Some people say that the Angels (peace be upon them) or favorite human beings are His sons and daughters. In fact; those are His obedient servants. They do not speak before Him, and they obey that Commandment whatever He orders. Allaah Almighty bestowed them honor. He is Pure from descendants and partners (both).

    Commentary

It was commanded previously that there is none equal of Allaah Almighty. Therefore, only He is Alone Worshipped.

In this verse it is commanded: Some people have ascribed little gods along with Him, but not equal of Him, because they consider that He cannot manage without helpers. Therefore He is needy of supporters. It is demanded from them: Produce any such strong proof in this matter if you have! Ideas and conjectures including blind imitation of forefathers are not useful. It is the decision of the wise people of the present times and the ancient that only Allaah Almighty is in Whose possession is the Throne of the Emperor of the Worlds and Who is Owner of It. Whatsoever happens, that happens by only His Command and Power.

Neither He needs advice from any other for Commandment and nor He is necessitous of any other’s help in any matter. The people conceive that Allaah Almighty, Who is The Supreme in Power and The Omnipotent, is just like the kings of the world. It is their plain error. What is competition among the kings of the world and The Omnipotent? They have been leading into error by reason of it that they do not try to seek the Truth and the Right. So their sense does not reach the fundamental reality. And they turn away from the Commandments of Holy Qur’an and other Heavenly Scriptures. And they have been entangled in own conjectures.

    Commentary

According to mankind’s point of view, the entire universe has been divided in two parts. One is over the head i.e. the sky, and the other is below the feet i.e. the earth. The creatures, whichever are present among the both, none of them can disobey the Commandment of Allaah Almighty. Who can then be Worshipped save Him? A strongest Proof of the Unity and Oneness of Allaah Almighty has been described in this verse. It is commanded: Only He can be a Worshipped Who is not needy of any other in any matter, and nothing may disobey His Order. And there should be none superior to Him who may prevent Him from doing according to His Will. If there were two or more gods (with full such power and authority as of Allaah Almighty) in the heavens and the earth, then certainly their plans had dashed together. And either; the heavens and the earth could not be created; or after creation those could not last. Remaining the heavens and the earth firm equally as we see; is a Clear Proof of this matter that there is only One Who commands them. And there is none equal to Him who may break His Order.

After such clear proof, which gods have been chosen by the people, those are not at all able to be Worshipped. They have been entangled in a conjecture that One Alone Worshipped is not sufficient to manage the entire worlds.

The fact is that Allaah Almighty possesses the Throne of the Emperor of the entire worlds and He is The Owner of it. And He is Pure and Higher than all such deficiencies and losses which the people impose upon Him. There is none who may enquire from Him, but at the end all human beings will be questioned about their deeds.

21.  ‘Amittakhazuuu  ‘aaliha-tam-minal-‘arzi  hum  yunshi-ruun.

    Commentary

Laa  yastah-siruuna – (they do not weary), it is in negative tense from the word ‘istihsaarun, origin of which is ha-sa-ra. Hasar means “to be wearied, to become lazy”. The aim from the word “‘istihsaarun” is the same.

Yunshi-ruuna – (they raise the dead), this word is from ‘inshaarun, which has been derived from na-sha-ra. Nashar means “to spread”. ‘Inshaarun means “to bring to life again after death and being ruined”.

It was commanded previously that the entire creatures, whether those are in the heavens or in the earth, are under the control of Allaah Almighty.

About those creatures, it has been described in this verse: Those who dwell in the heavens near Allaah Almighty {Angels (peace be upon them)}, they bow their heads before Him with humility, and glorify Him day and night constantly. From the same is their life.

For the life of mankind, as drawing the breath in; is necessary, just like this, Our remembrance (of Allaah) is also necessary for their life. Neither they are wearied from it and nor ever they feel themselves tired. It is obvious that Our chosen Angels are more powerful than the creatures of the earth. While they stand praying every time before Us and do not disobey Our Commandment, then what power have the creatures of the earth that they commit rebellion before Us? Do you then choose your gods from this feeble creature? Can these (gods) correct your condition? Can these raise you again if We wish to deprive you of life?

    Commentary

Yadmagu – (it breaks the head and discharges the brain), this word has come out from damgun, which means “to break the head”.

Zaahiqun – (that which vanishes), it is the Subject from the word za-ha-qa. Zuhuuq means “to vanish, to be destroyed utterly”.

Earlier; it was commanded: Neither this world is any play and nor We are needy of play. If We had wished to find a pastime, We would have found it in Our Presence – if We ever did.

In this verse, it is commanded: The human beings also should not spend their life of this world in playing and sports only. Here, Right and Wrong, True and False; both exist together. These both fight against each other mutually. When only mischief remains in the world, then We cast the club of Justice on its head for its annihilation and its brain is discharged from its head. At that time the False is ruined. The mankind should not support the mischief, otherwise when the True will assault then he will also be ground along with the mischief.

Behold! That is useless which you say false that “righteousness and evil are nothing. There will be no reward and punishment of deeds. Allaah, the Messenger (peace be upon him), the Scripture, the Day of Resurrection, reckoning of accounts, the Heaven and the Hell (Let us flee to Allaah) are self-fabricated things. Every thing which exists, is the world only. Use your power and enjoy completely!”

It is commanded: Your sayings of this kind will not leave you but ruin. Remember it that every creature of the heavens and the earth is under the control of Allaah Almighty. Wrongdoers will not find refuge anywhere.

16.  We created not the heaven and the earth and all that is between them in play.

17.  If We had wished to find a pastime, We would have found it in Our Presence – if We ever did.

17.  Law  ‘aradNaaa  ‘annat-takhiza  lahwal-lattakhaz-Naahu  mil-ladunNaaa  ‘in-  kunNaa  faa-‘iliin.

    Commentary

‘In – (if, nay), this word has the both meanings, and here; it can be taken as any meaning. The aim will be the same.

Circumstances of the disobedient, wrongdoers and sinful people were explained in the previous verses. Those people could not live in the world for a long time. They were involved in various calamities due to their stubbornness and at last they were ruined. And their places, where they used to be engaged in pleasantness of life carelessly, had become as reaped corn and extinct coal.

After that in these verses, the way of success has been described to the mankind that they should meditate in the creation of the world and its arrangement. It is commanded: We have not made it as a play. Very great suitableness is hidden in it. While sense and understanding has been bestowed to the human beings; then it was necessary that a vast work-place should also be prepared for the use of their wisdom, appearance of which should be very fascinating, but internally there should be a chain of magnificent machines; engaged in its control continuously under proper law and order. There is a test of mankind’s sense in it that he should not fall in love of its apparent charm, but he should know That Power Which drives its internal machines, Lord of Which is Allaah Almighty. This work-place is not a play.

It is commanded: If We were necessitous of a play and rejoicing, We would have made any toy from the things in Our Presence. What was the purpose of creating this entire universe? But in fact, We are not needy of games, play or rejoicing. Neither We feel any weariness and nor laziness that We should get some relaxation.

15.  Famaa  zaalat-tilka  da’-waahum  hattaa  ja-‘alNaahum  hasiidan  khaamidiin.

    Commentary

‘Utriftum – (you were given facilities), this word has been derived from tar-fun, which means “favor and delight”.

Hasiidan – (reaped), it is an adjective from the word ha-sa-da, which has passed in Suratul-‘An-‘aam. It means “to reap corn”.

Khaamidiin – (extinct, extinguished, dead, put out), this word is plural of khaamidun, which is the Subject from the word kha-ma-da. Khamuud means “to be reduced to ashes”. It aims “they became dead and lifeless”.

It is commanded: O unjust people! Why are you fleeing now? Return to such abodes where you had been enjoying pleasantly. Today, your wicked deeds have come before you and you are going to flee. Go back and see! Perhaps your disciples will seek your help and ask for advice that “during past you used to advise us. Tell us! What should we do today?”

Those people said senselessly: Alas for us, we have been entangled in misfortune today! Really we were great wrongdoers that we did not obey the Prophets (peace be upon them).

In short, they continued crying out and admitted their sins, but the torment had come upon them. Screaming and crying out at that time was useless. At last, We made them as reaped corn. They fell down as no longer in existence and were ruined.
