After beholding the Doom
Suratun-Nahl – (The Bee) – 16
‘A-‘uu-zu Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)
Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)
84. And (bethink you of) the Day when We raise up of every nation a witness, then there is no leave for disbelievers, nor are they allowed to make amends.
85. And when those who did wrong behold the doom, it will not be made light for them, nor will they be reprieved. |
84. Wa yawma Nab-‘asu min kulli ‘ummatin Shahiidan summa laa yu’-zanu lillaziina kafaruu wa laa hum yus-ta’-tabuun.
85. Wa ‘izaa ra-‘allaziina zalamul-‘Azaaba falaa yukhaffafu ‘anhum wa laa hum yunzaruun. |
Commentary
Shahiidun – (one, who looks all circumstances and then gives evidence), it is an adjective from the word shahada, origin of which is shahaadah. Shahaadah means “describing that what is seen”. Here it aims the Prophets (peace be upon them), who will describe correct circumstances of their nations on the Day of Judgment; whatsoever they observed about them during this life.
yus-ta’-tabuuna – (they are allowed to make amends), this word is from ‘ista’-taaba, which has been derived from ‘ataba. ‘Ataab, ‘atbaa and mu’-tabatun – meanings of all these words are “anger and dissatisfaction”. ‘Ista’-taaba means “to appease the enraged person by saying “Please forgive me! I am culpable”. This opportunity is available in this world only that we should try to satisfy our Creator by supplicating before Him. In the Hereafter, this chance will not be obtainable.
It is commanded: On that Day, every Prophet and Messenger (peace be upon him) will be asked “How did behave your nation with you?” Those who disbelieved in Allah Almighty, will not be permitted that they may speak something about themselves or try to please God Almighty. After looking the Doom with eyes, there will neither be any chance of repentance/asking forgiveness, nor will it be made light for them and nor there will be any respite in punishment.
