Satan had made strife between brothers

Surah Yuusuf (Joseph) – 12

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim. 
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

 وَقَالَ يَٰٓأَبَتِ هَٰذَا تَأْوِيلُ رُءْيَٰىَ مِن قَبْلُ قَدْ جَعَلَهَا رَبِّى حَقًّا وَقَدْ أَحْسَنَ بِىٓ إِذْ أَخْرَجَنِى مِنَ ٱلسِّجْنِوَجَآءَ بِكُم مِّنَ ٱلْبَدْوِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ أَن نَّزَغَ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَ إِخْوَتِىٓ إِنَّ رَبِّى لَطِيفٌ لِّمَا يَشَآءُ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ (100   b)

100b.  and he said: O my father! This is the interpretation of my dream of old. My Lord hath made it true, and He hath shown me kindness, since He took me out of the prison and hath brought you from the desert after Satan had made strife between me and my brethren. Lo! My Lord is Tender unto whom He will. He is the Knower, the Wise.

100b.  Wa  qaala  yaaa-‘abati  haazaa  ta’-wiilu  ru’-yaaya  min  qablu;  qad  ja-‘alahaa  Rabbii  haqqaa.  Wa  qad  ‘ahsana  biii  ‘iz  ‘akhrajanii  minas-sijni  wa  jaaa-‘a-  bikum-minal-badwi  mim-  ba’-di  ‘an-nazagash-Shay-taanu  baynii  wa  bayna  ‘ikh-watii.  ‘Inna  Rabbii  Latiiful-limaa  yashaa’.  ‘Inna-Huu  Huwal- ‘Aliimul-  Hakiim.

 

Commentary

 

When parents and all brothers of Joseph (peace be upon him) fell down before him prostrate and thanked him in accordance with the tradition of those days, then Joseph (peace be upon him) said: With the Grace of God Almighty, it is the interpretation of my that dream which I was shown during my child-hood and which has been made true by Him. It was His kindness on me during every difficulty. At first He took me out of the prison with good name, then He arranged to bring all of you here from the desert and see me, otherwise Satan had made strict strife among me and my brethren. Verily, the Knowledge of Allah Almighty has surrounded everything and He is well Aware of managing the every work properly.

Come into Egypt safe, if Allah will!

Surah Yuusuf (Joseph) – 12

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim. 
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

  فَلَمَّا دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَىٰ يُوسُفَ ءَاوَىٰٓ إِلَيْهِ أَبَوَيْهِ وَقَالَ ٱدْخُلُوا۟ مِصْرَ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ءَامِنِينَ (99

 وَرَفَعَ أَبَوَيْهِ عَلَى ٱلْعَرْشِ وَخَرُّوا۟ لَهُۥ سُجَّدًا (100   a)

99.  And when they came in before Joseph, he took his parents unto him, and said: Come into Egypt safe, If Allah will!   100a.  And he placed his parents on the dais and they fell down before him prostrate.

99.  Falammaa  dakhaluu  ‘alaa  Yuusufa  ‘aa-waaa  ‘ilayhi  ‘aba-way-hi  wa  qaalad-khuluu  Mis-ra  ‘in- shaaa-‘Allaahu  ‘aami-niin.   100a.  Wa  rafa-‘a  ‘aba-wayhi  ‘alal-‘arshi  wa  kharruu  lahuu  sujjadaa.

 

Commentary

 

Sujjadan – (the persons who fell down prostrate), this word is plural of saajid, which is the subject (a doer), came out from sa-ja-da. Sajdah means “to put one’s forehead on the ground”.

 

It was a custom of being thankful to someone during those days that one was required to fall down prostrate before him. The aim from it was an announcement of his respect and reverence. Even it had not been forbidden by the Religious Law, because object of this prostration was NOT “to adore”. The people used to bow before someone for showing their thankfulness; so much that their foreheads used to touch the land.

 

The Religious Law of the last Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) rejected this practice and it was specified only for the worship of Allah Almighty. Islam taught the mankind that the people should not fall down prostrate before any other save Allah Almighty for thanking, but they should choose other ways of respect among one another. Prostration has been specified for adoration of Allah Almighty and being thankful to Him only, so that a difference between the respect of The Real Benefactor (God Almighty) and others may be made.

 

When Prophet Jacob (peace be upon him) arrived near Egypt along with his entire tribe, Joseph (peace be upon him) received them, placed his parents on the dais equal himself and said: Come into Egypt safe and satisfied, if Allah will. For being thankful to Joseph (peace be upon him), they all bowed down before him so much that their foreheads touched the ground.
