 The Hypocrites

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

Stage – 1, Verse – 7 of 286, Section – 1 of 40 (Part – 1)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Lesson

Introduction of Surah Al-Baqarah was discussed in Lesson # 13, that like every Movement, three kinds of groups were born, when Islam came:

  • Believers – who believed that Islam is a true religion.
  • Infidels – who denied and opposed Islam.
  • Hypocrites – who apparently accepted but in fact, they did not believe in Islam.

Description in respect of Believers and Infidels has been discussed in the first Section. Now the narration about the third group begins.

The word Munaafiq has come out from nafaqa, literal meaning of which is “to mine”, as wild animals make mines under the ground, so that they may be hidden at the time of necessity and run away through secret passages. In this sense, the Hypocrites are those unlucky people, who accept Islam apparently, but opposite to the Muslims, they behave deceitfully and secretly, and for the enmity; they wait.

When Messenger of God Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) immigrated from Makkah and reached Madinah, at that time, the people of Madinah were getting ready to choose a person ofBanu Khazraj Tribe, named Abdullah bin Ubaii bin Salol, as their chieftain of the city. He was very wicked and a manipulative man. On arrival of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), the matter of his coronation was indefinitely deferred. Every individual of Madinah began to look at the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him).

When Abullah observed this condition, he remained silent. He considered the wisdom in it that he should not rise his voice against Islam and the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). Therefore, he announced that he has embraced Islam along with his companions. But internally, they remained in waiting that whenever, in future; they would get any chance, they would give up Islam; and get up against the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him).

As the time went by, the influence of Islam expanded; and jealousy increased in the hearts of such people. The fire of enmity exceeded in their hearts. Therefore, whenever they availed, they opposed Islam and deceived the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). This proved that they were domestic enemies in the guise of friends. Notwithstanding; following the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) in the congregational prayers, they opposed Islam always, whenever got any opportunity, and withdrew through pride from the Muslims having ideas of their own. In this connection; there is a famous incident named “Masjid Zaraar”, which was demolished. They left company of Muslims in the Battle of ‘Uhud, when both Armies were face to face. In the second Section, habits and qualities of the Hypocrites have been described. God Almighty save all of us from these entire kinds of badness and bless with perfect Belief.

Even today, the biggest danger to Islam is from the Hypocrites. That is to say; those people who say themselves Muslims, read Kalimah of Islam, name themselves as of Muslims and live with them. But in fact, their hearts have infidelity and sympathy with the disbelievers against the Muslims.

Lesson # 1083 from Holy Qur-’aan

Religion Islam is not for any particular class or nation

Lesson

It is known from the verse before this that Islam is the actual Religion; prescribed by Allah Almighty for the mankind. And its establishment in the world is necessary according to His Decision. This Religion is not for any particular class or any particular nation. If any time, any nation is provided an opportunity to help it, then that nation should consider it their good fortune, which is given to her by a lucky chance.

The Muslims of Madinah are being caused to understand: God Almighty wills to take this work from you at this time. If you spent in idleness at this occasion of supporting His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), then certainly Allah Almighty will raise any other nation for His help and you will be deprived of a big prosperity and will deserve punishment.

It is commanded in this verse that God Almighty does not need help of anyone for establishing His Religion. If He takes work from any nation in this connection, that is for the reason that He increases his rank and honors him with His distinguishing gifts. If you have any doubt in this regard that; how Alone Allah Almighty can help someone, then you should meditate in the incidents of Immigration and behold that when the people of Makkah decided to kill His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), and with this intention, the chosen people of the entire tribes surrounded the door of His House, that whenever He would come out, then suddenly; all people would attack collectively and slay Him (Let us flee to God).

He, God’s Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) was in the House. He left Ali (May God be pleased with Him) on Own bed and came out of the House. In front of all of the idolaters, He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) went away clearly, throwing dust in their eyes. Taking Abu Bakr (May God be pleased with Him) along from his house, They came out of Makkah and hid both in the nearby Cave, named Sawr. The Infidels came out in search of Them and arrived at the door of that Cave. Abu Bakr (May God be pleased with Him) was confused that if the people of Makkah saw them then it would be difficult to escape. The Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) commanded: Grieve not! Lo! God is with us.
